SECAUCUS -- The doors are bulletproof. The ceilings are high with glass shades that let in just enough natural light. And that light playfully bounces off the marble-finished floors, a blend of a deep blue, burnt orange and a soft gray.
That's just the entrance of the new High Tech High School campus — the tip of the iceberg.
The $160 million state-of-the-art school opened this week and was dedicated this afternoon to retiring Hudson County Schools of Technology Superintendent Frank J. Gargiulo.
A visibly excited Gargiulo thanked and introduced his family, thanked his colleagues and gave a brief history of the project.
"I am humbled by the decision to dedicate this campus in my name," he said in a statement. "These students are among the brightest in the country and deserve a quality space to study and prepare themselves academically for the future."
The 350,000-square-foot building is packed with technological perks ranging from recording and production studios to 12 science labs and music classrooms.
This school year, 1,200 students are enrolled in various programs. In addition to a traditional four-year high school, the new campus building also houses KAS Prep -- an alternative high school program -- and Hudson Technical, a post-secondary certification program.
