On Tuesday, February 6, 2007 AACT hosted its first Student Led Conference. The students took on the role of Academic Presenter, providing parents and family members with information regarding current projects, assignments and their overall progress.
“This innovative conference style enables the learners of our school to take ownership of their work, making them confident, accountable and responsible for their learning,” stated Amy Lin Rodriguez, Curriculum Enrichment Facilitator and Mentor.
Each student had the opportunity to share the contents of his/her project folders and digital portfolios. This conference proved to be the optimal time for the learners of AACT to discuss their self-selected academic and social goals for this semester, as well as prepare to work on their Personalized Educational Plans for next semester.
Family members were the active audience and AACT mentors served as facilitators in this process, while distributing the students’ Proficiency-Based Assessments for the semester. “Having the parents sharing in their child’s education is what it’s all about,” said Mr. James Andriani, Principal of AACT.
