The students of AACT attended the Future Fair ’07 on March 1, 2007 in the Jersey City Center. This event, which was organized by the Career Academy, was open to all students of HCST. Sixty-three presenters were on hand including trade schools, two and four year colleges and universities, branches of the military, and businesses. Prior to attending the event, all AACT students researched the organizations attending to find schools that offer courses which they are considering studying.
As AACT is an Architectural-based program, students were encouraged to familiarize themselves with the various schools who offer architectural programs. Three schools of interest were New Jersey Institute of Technology, Vaughn College of Aeronautics and Technology, and Webb Institute of Naval Architecture and Marine Engineering.
The students met with the delegates from the various schools in attendance and obtained information about their programs. The delegates of both NJIT and Webb Institute have met with Mr. Simon, the architecture facilitator from AACT, to discuss future visits to AACT to meet with just our students to discuss their programs. Although the students were encouraged to investigate architectural themed schools, the students also spoke with presenters about programs that spanned interest areas from culinary arts to law enforcement.
An informal meeting with the students the morning after the fair demonstrated how much information was obtained by the group. It was a great learning experience for all involved. A special thanks to the entire AACT team for volunteering to stay after school as chaperones. And an EXTRA special THANK YOU to Mr. Lyons for organizing this event and AACTively engaging our students!
