(North Bergen—February 8, 2007) Just as springtime approaches, so too does the time-honored tradition of the High Tech High School Musical Theater production, but this year’s performance of the countercultural classic "Hair" promises not only thrills but perhaps a once in a lifetime dream come true for HTHS Musical Theatre.
The American High School Theatre Arts Festival (AHSTF) Board of Advisors has chosen a troupe of twenty HTHS Musical Theatre students from all across Hudson County to represent the United States at the prestigious Edinburgh Fringe Festival, the world’s largest arts festival, to be held August 5th-27th this year. Scotland once more will host international performing artists and some 18,000 performances of music, theatre, dance, and comedy for over a half-a-million spectators, yet while the opportunity to perform for such an audience elates the HTHS Musical Theatre troupe, the funding of the trip proves its most daunting task so far.
The cost of the Edinburgh trip approximately amounts to $120,000, or $5,000 per person, including three chaperones. Although parents and others have donated almost a third of that to offset the expense, the students need to raise the balance immediately for their dream to see the light of day. Enter “The American Tribal Love/Rock Musical” better known as "Hair," indisputably one of the most significant pop cultural artifacts of the 1960s. Under the direction of Alex Perez, the HTHS Musical Theatre students will perform some selections from "Hair" at the Hudson County Justice William Brennan Court House in Jersey City on April 4th at 7:00 p.m. All proceeds from this performance will go directly to the trip to Edinburgh fund.
HTHS Musical Theatre, long recognized for its entertaining, innovative and award-winning productions, presents "Hair" at the historic Hudson County Justice William Brennan Court House in Jersey City on April 4th at 7:00 p.m. Tickets are available by sending a check or money order for $150 per ticket payable to Hudson County Schools of Technology. Donations can be sent to Hudson County Schools of Technology, 2000 85th Street, North Bergen, NJ 07047, Attn: Linda Quentzel.
Businesses can also advertise their services in the production program distributed at the event. Contributions will be accepted with no obligation from the donor. |
