AACT IS NOW HOOKED ON KNOWLEDGE THANKS TO EXPLORE 2000 MIDDLE SCHOOL!

Earlier this month, Explore 2000 Middle School got AACT hooked on knowledge! The students of Explore 2000 prepared effective educational presentations to teach AACT all about fishing. AACT students had the opportunity to learn important information to help them catch, identify, tag, and safely release various species of marine life. The middle school presenters were well-versed in this environmental area.

Hooked on Knowledge is an outdoor educational program based on an interdisciplinary approach to learning. Students, with the assistance of their teachers, facilitators and volunteers from the Hudson River Fishermen’s Association engage in a variety of environmentally based fishing activities in the water surrounding the New York and New Jersey metro area. The program is in full accordance with all Fishing Laws and Regulations as it applies to New York and New Jersey.

The process of tagging requires that the engaged students first learn how to catch the fish, which entails proper use and technique in using fishing tackle. Because of the successful completion of Hooked on Knowledge training, on June 1, 2007 AACT students will enjoy a HRFA sponsored Fish Tagging Field Experience. The students will then identify the species, measure the length, record where and when the fish was captured, tag the fish in the appropriate section, then safely release the fish back into its environment.

Without the guidance of HRFA Chairmen Capt. Glenn Blank & Darren Cardinal, and Explore’s academic facilitators, Mr. J. Ponticorvo, Mr. M. Ashraf and Ms. A. Gizulewska this great educational program would not exist! AACT wishes to thank the Explore 2000 presenters for preparing them for an exciting experience which lies ahead.
