(Washington, D.C.—April 16, 2007) High Tech history teacher Steve Alban has been selected to attend three highly competitive and highly coveted summer institutes and seminars designated for exceptional teachers, sponsored by the National Endowment for the Humanities, announced Principal Karol Brancato.

Alban will attend two seminars from the Landmarks of American History and Culture Workshop for Teachers: "Stony the Road We Trod: Alabama's Role in the Modern Civil Rights Movement," to be held in Montgomery, Alabama, and "America’s Industrial Revolution," taking place at the Henry Ford Museum in Dearborn, Michigan. He will also attend an institute for school teachers on "The American South: Geography and Culture," to be held at University of Tennessee in Knoxville.

Alban found himself among a select group of secondary school teachers and college instructors chosen to attend a few of the many summer institutes and seminars that the National Endowment for the Humanities hosts. In many instances, a few hundred applicants vie for a 30-seat seminar or institute offering. All teachers selected to a seminar or institute will be awarded a stipend based on the length of the seminar or institute to help cover travel costs, book and research fees, and living expenses.

The National Endowment for the Humanities, an independent grant-making agency of the Federal Government, offers teachers opportunities to study humanities topics in a variety of summer seminars and institutes through its Division of Education Programs. A seminar for school teachers enables fifteen participants to explore a topic or set of readings with a scholar having special interest and expertise in the field. The core material of the seminar need not relate directly to the school curriculum.
