(Trenton—May 14, 2008) Bayonne residents Jonathan Bourdett and Ethan Elenberg, Laura Hecht-Felella of Hoboken, Jersey City residents Gabrielle Gulo, Wilson Matos, and Steven Santos, North Bergen residents Jenieve Guevarra, Amy Patel, and Natalie Rivera, and Catherine Tarakajian of Weehawken have been selected as 2008 Edward J. Bloustein Distinguished Scholars, announced Principal Karol Brancato.
In 1990, the Distinguished Scholar award became known as the Edward J. Bloustein Distinguished Scholar award in recognition of Dr. Bloustein’s ideals of excellence and achievement. Dr. Bloustein, seventeenth President of Rutgers, The State University of New Jersey, served as President for more than eighteen years and directed the University’s development into one of America’s premier public institutions for under-graduate and graduate education.
Deeply committed to the central role of undergraduate education within a research university, Dr. Bloustein encouraged participation in public service and the value of merit-based scholarships to recognize, support and promote academic excellence. |
