(Jersey City - May 23, 2008) The American Society of Newspaper Editors (ASNE) has selected County Prep High School English and journalism teacher, Nancy Dinicola to be a 2008 ASNE Reynolds High School Journalism Institute Fellow, announced County Prep Principal Barbara Mendolla.
Ms. Dinicola will be attending the Institute at the University of Nevada at Reno for two weeks in July. The 2008 ASNE Reynolds High School Journalism Institute Fellows will participate in an intensive newspaper journalism training program for high school teachers. Instruction is based on the core tenets of journalism and the skills needed to produce a top-notch scholastic publication, on paper or on-line.
This year’s institute, the eighth annual sponsored by ASNE drew over 360 applicants. As part of the selection process applicants submit an original essay addressing how they and their school will benefit from the program.
“I consider my selection to the Institute to be an honor, said Dinicola. “I am looking forward to meeting and sharing new ideas and best practices with other educators from all over the country.”
In a recent press release, Jeff Cohen, chair of ASNE’s High School Journalism Committee and editor of the Houston Chronicle explains that “With the leadership of these teachers, we're helping the next generation of journalists and news consumers embrace the tenets of quality journalism and the First Amendment. The multimedia world is theirs to shape and grow.”
The Donald W. Reynolds Foundation is a national philanthropic organization founded in 1954 by the late media entrepreneur for whom it is named. Headquartered in Las Vegas, it is of one of the largest private foundations in the United States.
Ms. Mendolla congratulates Ms. Dinicola, and commends her for her commitment to excellence. |
