KAS Students Takes First Place in Art Contest

The Hudson County Improvement Authority (HCIA) recently held its 3rd Annual Calendar Art Contest and KAS Prep student Angelica Mavrianos was able to bring home a first place award for her artwork.
The HCIA has been running their calendar competition since 2006 in celebration of Earth Day. This year they decided on the theme of “No Child Left Inside” and asked the students of Hudson County to submit original artwork. Students were asked to keep their work concentrating on any part of the Hudson County environment, wildlife, or the effects of pollution in our community.
Angelica has been impressing her peers and teachers at KAS Prep with her artwork all year long and the Calendar Contest was the an excellent opportunity for her to showcase her talents.
As the subject of her piece, Angelica picked the lake house in North Hudson County Park right here in North Bergen. Enjoying the weather outside are two children holding fishing poles and freshly caught fish, as well as a girl outside painting. You can also see birds, turtles, and a squirrel around the lake house.
Angelica received an American Express gift card and a certificate at Liberty State Park where she and other winners were honored on April 19. Her artwork was also put on display during the Earth Day 2008 Celebration and will be featured in the 2008-2009 HCIA Calendar along with other winning entries. |
