Health & Fitness Class Raises the Bar for Education
By Mr. Czechowski
This semester Math and Physical Education teacher have discovered a way to combine their classes by a single activity. KAS Prep students are achieving Math, Health, and Physical Education credits at the same time by having an interest in lifting weights.
Physical Education teacher, Mr. Fitzgibbons, and Math teacher, Mr. Kohn, are both interested in weight lifting and found a way to share their interests with the students of KAS Prep by creating the weight lifting class. The class began on October 23, and will continue to take place Monday through Thursday at 1:00 pm in the APA Building. While the students are lifting and improving their physical health, they will also be learning about their muscle groups and the effect of a healthy diet.
The students have already weighed themselves and measured their chests, arms, necks, legs, and waists, and will continue to chart their progress throughout the semester. In Math class, the students will take these measurements and be able to figure out the percentages of their muscle growth, weight loss, or weight gain.
When students heard about the creation of this course and the limited number of seats available, the course was quickly filled even considering the early 1:00 pm start time and the fact they would need to commute to class earlier to participate. Unfortunately students hoping to get involved will have to wait until next semester and try to enroll early. |
