Eleven High Tech Students Named to Japanese National Honor Society

(North Bergen, NJ—May 20, 2016) Eleven High Tech High School students have met the academic requirements for induction into the Japanese National Honor Society (JNHS), announced Dr. Joseph Giammarella, Principal of High Tech High School.
The following students have earned this special recognition: Bayonne residents Alex Becerril and Jonathan Fam; Erin Chen of Harrison; Jersey City residents Katherine Aczon, Cyann Camaya, Memphis Chen, and Tulsi Franklin; Kearny resident Camille Romano; Jose De Jesus of North Bergen; and Secaucus residents Georgiana Blenkey and Harold Canonigo.
“Our students are hardworking and earned this honor all by themselves,” Sensei Akemi Dobkin, veteran Japanese Language instructor at High Tech, says.   “I believe that they will continue to make an effort to succeed in the Japanese program.”
The Japanese National Honor Society (JNHS) honors and encourages achievement and excellence in the study of Japanese, as well as promotes altruistic conduct through Japanese-related activities. The American Association of Teachers of Japanese (AATJ) assists Japanese Language teachers with methods to recognize outstanding students, to encourage them to continue the study of Japanese, and to promote activities that provide them with ways that incorporate their language skills.

In order to qualify for induction into JNHS, a student must maintain at least a B+ or above average in Japanese Language class and a B or better average in their other high school courses.
