Five High Tech Students and One Teachers Honored at 12th Annual UNIS Haiku Contest

(New York—June 2, 2018) At the Award Ceremony of the United Nations International School (UNIS), judges honored five High Tech students and one teacher for their contributions to the 12th annual UNIS Haiku Contest in English, French, Japanese, Spanish, and German, announced Dr. Joseph Giammarella, Principal of High Tech High School.

This poetic competition occurred between November 2017 and March 2018. Through language enrichment, the UNIS Haiku Contest urges writers to express their creativity by selecting and utilizing few words.

High Tech students Kayla Albuja of Kearny won Second Place and Bayonne resident Lucas Neukirchner earned Third Place, each for French.

The following High Tech students earned Honorable Mention in the contest: Shayla Larson of Weehawken for English, North Bergen resident Diana Concepcion for French, and Daniel Lin of Secaucus for German.

One teacher, Dr. Laje Gashi, earned Honorable mention for French as well.
