ADMISSION PROCESS
| |
► The application form is filled out by the parent and student, and then submitted to the grammar school for inclusion of school data.
► Prior to December 1, the grammar school guidance counselor forwards the completed application to HTHS.
► The grammar school guidance counselor must call the HTHS guidance office to advise HTHS on the number of students from his/her school that will be testing. Test dates will be allocated on a "first come" basis. A maximum of one hundred students will sit for each test session. (see enclosed test schedule).
► The Admission Review Committee (ARC) is a school-based committee comprised of counselors, teachers, and administrators.
► The ARC performs a comprehensive evaluation based upon the student's application, transcript, standardized test scores, grades, work skills and habits, attendance, and talents. Using census data, students are initially selected to reflect population of each municipality as well as the racial/ethnic composition of Hudson County. HTHS admits approximately sixty females and sixty males to its freshman class each year.
► We anticipate mailing notification letters to students, parents/guardian and grammar schools in mid-February. Students may be informed of their interview status, wait list status or non-acceptance. NO INFORMATION REGARDING ADMISSION STATUS IS AVAILABLE BY TELEPHONE.
► Appeal of the ARC decision must be made in writing to the HCST Superintendent of Schools.
► An orientation interview with our HTHS staff is the next essential component of the admission process. Attendance by the student and parent/guardian is required. Following this meeting, the decision of the Admission Review Committee will be forwarded in writing to the parent/guardian.
