Program Description

This class will enrich the performer (singers, dancers, actors) through exposure to musical theatre history in relation to American culture and through the development an appreciation of music theatre. Emphasis placed upon the staging and production of a full-length musical play during the spring semester.

Musical Theater I & II (15 credits)

Juniors in the MTH I will go deep into the history of the only American art form from the 1800's onward, technique and special attention to the art of auditioning, acting technique, composers, music theory, theater skills, movement for the actor and theater production and further training in the craft. Junior majors will also be involved in an intense performance schedule throughout the year and take summer studies July of 2010 in London as part of a 2 week musical theater concentration in London, England. You must AUDITION Saturday May 16th, in order to be accepted to this class. Please see Mr. Perez.

Extensive focus on acting technique, audition preparation, scene work, student direction, movement for the stags, musical theater history from the 1950's to present, voice and music theory, heavy involvement in theater production schedule and the business of theater including job awareness, trade and practicality in the business of theater. Disciplined teamwork and creative writing helps shape up the program and the work.
