County Prep History Instructor, Dr. Thomas P. Calvanico has been selected to participate in the Summer Teacher Institute at Georgetown University which is sponsored by the prestigious Gilder Lehrman Institute of American History, announced Barbara Mendolla, Principal of County Prep High School.
Dr. Calvanico will spend a week in Washington, D.C. studying "The Sixties in Historical Perspective" with the reknown scholars and authors Michael Kazin and Michael W. Flamm.
The Gilder Lehrman Institue of American History was founded in 1994 by Richard Gilder and Lewis E. Lehrman as a nonprofit organization devoted to the improvement of history education. The Institute has developed an array of programs for schools, teachers, and students that now operate in all fifty states, including a website that features the more than 60,000 unique historical documents in the Gilder Lehrman Collection. Each year the Institute offers support and resources to tens of thousands of teachers, and through them enhances the education of more than a million students. The Institute's programs have been recognized by awards from the Whit House, the National Endownment for the Humanities, and the Organization of American Historians.
Dr. Calvanico, who is also a licensed attorney in New Jersey, has been an instructor at County Prep since 2005. He has also studied at the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame Teachers Institute in Cleveland, Ohio and plays bass guitar in a classic rock band.
